Teaching is an undervalued skill

Teaching or instructing takes place in a variety of venues, not just in k-12 schools or post-secondary education establishments. In the majority of cases, education or training will be needed for new hires in business and industry. An effective training program is essential to reduce employee turnover and the expense of replacing employees. Furthermore, those working directly over new hires would be made more effective with knowledge of adult learning principles, especially in jobs that involve complex tasks and concepts. It would be a good practice for employers to equip supervisors, team leaders, etc. with these skills in “train-the-trainer” sessions. In such instances not only would employee retention increase but an added value would be recognition that intangible assets such as dedication and creativity alongside hard skills make any organization successful.
